Canterbury Boys High School Visual Arts program focuses on developing the technical artistic accomplishment of our Visual Arts students as well as fostering creativity and conceptual strength in their work.
Years 9 and 10 learnt about the “Still-life” as artistic genre through their own creations and the study of this theme throughout history. This study culminated in a major artwork that appropriated the work of other famous artists, recontextualising and creating new meaning. Year 7 created portrait paintings that consolidated their new skills and knowledge in the area of the elements of design, and painting technique. The practice of portrait painting, its purpose, and varying styles through various art periods were studied, and the students focused on one“famous” portrait artist who then influenced the creation of their own portrait paintings.
