Our Journey Through Indonesia.
The inspiration for this exhibition ‘Our Journey through Indonesia’ came from the deep connection we have with our nearest Asian Neighbour, Indonesia. Indonesia is a country close to the hearts of our Greenway Park students. As our sister school relationship in Bandung continues to flourish, students at Greenway Park Public School are involved in Indonesian cultural studies as well as basic Indonesian language programs. From language acquisition to art projects, history and geography, Indonesian studies link seamlessly into our curriculum. As Global Citizens we have the opportunity to open our hearts and minds to the culture and traditions of other countries that neighbour our shores. What better way to experience this but through the arts.
The artworks in this exhibition were created to highlight the beauty and diversity of Indonesia. Indonesia has a rich history full of varying art forms, including painting, woodcarving, weaving, dancing, storytelling and puppetry. Batik, a process where patterns are created on cloth with wax and dye, is also popular. They tell a story of a country that has a tradition of igniting the senses through painting, dance, puppetry and sculpture. Imagine embarking on a journey that allows you to experience the colours of its balmy coastline, lush green paddy fields, threatening volcanoes, and ancient buildings. With every sweep of a brush stroke be prepared to experience the beauty of its unique fauna and flora.
This exhibition showcases Indonesia of the past and the present. It is represented through the eyes of our students.
