Our Journey Through India
The inspiration for our latest collection of artworks ‘Our Journey Through India’ once again came from our school wide program ‘Seven Countries in Seven Years.’ This program involves every student from Kindergarten to Year 6 undertaking study related to at least seven different Asian countries throughout their primary schooling. Students are involved in cultural studies as well as basic language programs and are given the opportunity to ‘travel’ through these Asian countries.
From language acquisition to art projects, history and geography, Asian studies are linking harmoniously into our curriculum. Choosing India this year was a natural progression from our previous exhibitions which included ‘Our Journey Through Asia ‘and ‘Our Journey Through Indonesia ‘. From their initial experiences with our closest neighbour Indonesia our students are ready to seamlessly move into Year 1 and explore the rich, vibrant and aromatic country of India.
India is a land of incredible diversity. It is a vast and varied canvas of ancient traditions, extraordinary architecture, magnificent landscapes, colourful ceremonies and a rich, but sometimes turbulent, religious history. On this Journey through India we hope to ignite your curiosity, shake your senses and warm your soul as you discover artworks that depict the beauty that is India.
Inhale the colours, study the lines, enjoy the textures that will transport you from the towering icy peaks of the Himalayans, to the sacred and spiritual waters of the Ganges. Take the time to marvel at the sheer magnitude of their exquisite temples built thousands of years ago. Delight in the exotic colours of their traditional costume and the blood pumping movements of their dances and music. From its simple and peaceful villages, to its vibrant urban cities, India knows how to embrace and celebrate its uniqueness.
