The HOPE Butterflies were born within the Blue Mountains in October 2018 as part of National Water Week. The installation then travelled to festivals and community events inviting members of the public to 'add their wings to the colony' - make butterflies for the installation - the HOPE Butterfly colony now consists of over 2000 butterflies.
This June the HOPE Butterfly colony will be swarming into the Margot Hardy Gallery to celebrate World Environment Day on Saturday June 5, 2021. A call out was sent to primary and secondary schools across New South Wales to create butterflies for the colony, over 80 schools are now participating, butterflies are landing each day and these magical butterflies carry HOPE on their wings.
A Nick Baldas Initiative.
