The campus landscape - open space, rolling hills, lakes and vegetation - is an ideal setting to display large outdoor sculptures. The UWS Sculpture Award showcases major works by significant Australian artists, some of whom have created sculptures especially for the University's Campbelltown Campus.

The UWS Sculpture Award and Exhibition aims to establish closer links between the University and artists, and engage with the community by providing a valuable educational and cultural resource, as well as enhancing the campus environment for teaching and learning.

Picnic facilities are available for the public to use around the exhibition site.

Prizes in the 2012 UWS Sculpture Award:

  • UWS Acquisitive Sculpture Award - valued up to $25,000
  • Landcom Peoples Choice Award - $5,000

Complimentary accommodation in a Studio Apartment will be provided to all interstate and regional finalist, coinciding with the dates of installation (29 April - 1st May , 2012) and de-installation (3rd June - 5th June 2012) of the exhibition courtesy of Quest Campbelltown.

Exhibition Selection Panel:

  • Michael Dagostino (Director, Campbelltown Arts Centre)

Michael Dagostino has over twelve years experience in the commercial / contemporary / community arts sector. He has worked at the Parramatta Artists Studios as inaugural Coordinator, Artbank as acting Senior Curator and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre as acting Curator and has held many roles in the creative industry sector encompassing both design and visual arts. Michael has project managed, curated or assisted in over 150 exhibitions that crossed the boundaries of social history, contemporary art, commerce and community cultural development. In addition to which he has developed and facilitated many successful professional development workshops for arts industry professionals. Currently, Michael is Chair of Artspace and Director of the Campbelltown Arts Centre, a centre where artists from all disciplines can work, learn and engage with the community and business sector. Michael is a passionate supporter and promoter of the arts and seeks to integrate it into all parts of everyday life.

  • Monica McMahon (Art Curator, University of Western Sydney)

Monica McMahon has been the UWS Art Curator at the University of Western Sydney since 2002 and during this period she has established three galleries on its campuses. She is the artistic director for all exhibition programs in the following UWS galleries; Female Orphan School Gallery (Parramatta Campus), Margot Hardy Gallery (Bankstown Campus) and the UWS Art Gallery (Werrington North, Penrith Campus) which are recognized public galleries.

Monica is the artistic director of the UWS Acquisitive Sculpture Award and Exhibition (biannual outdoor exhibition held on the University's Campbelltown Campus), which was established in 2004. She is also the curator of the University's permanent art collection, responsible for the promotion, development, research and management of the collection which is distributed throughout the University's six campuses across Western Sydney.

  • Jennifer Turpin (Artist)

Jennifer Turpin and Michaelie Crawford are known primarily as a collaborative duo who, for the past ten years, have produced many public artworks of considerable scale and beauty. These have been the result of prestigious commissions from government, public authorities, councils and corporations. They include Storm Waters, 2003, a multi-award winning environmental stormwater sculpture for Landcoms Victoria Park site, South Sydney; Tied to Tide, 1999, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, Pyrmont Point Park, (ARUP NAWIC Award); Tank, 1997, Downing Centre Tunnel, Museum Station, Sydney (NAWIC Merit Award); and Well, 1995, New Children's Hospital, Westmead, Sydney.
